HOMOEOPATHIC TREATMENT FOR TONSILLITIS

Image

Homoeopathic medicines are highly effective for acute tonsillitis as well as for cases of recurrent tonsillitis. The primary aim of homoeopathic medicines is to build a child’s immunity and prevent recurrent infections that lead to tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis is treated most efficiently by homoeopathy as it follows a two-step procedure to deal with tonsillitis. In the first step, homoeopathic medicines are given to treat the acute symptoms of tonsillitis. In the second step, homoeopathy targets the chronic tendency towards recurrent tonsillitis. Homoeopathic medicines improve the body’s immunity and make it strong enough to fight infection quickly.

Tonsils are protective organs in the body. if you save tonsils, the tonsils will save you. Homoeopathy can help you save your tonsils; with right homoeopathic medicines unnecessary surgical removal can be avoided.

KNOW YOUR DISEASE

Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, two oval-shaped pads of tissue at the back of the throat one tonsil on each side. Signs and symptoms of tonsillitis include swollen tonsils, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and tender lymph nodes on the sides of the neck.

Tonsillitis most commonly affects children between preschool ages and the mid-teenage years.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF TONSILLITIS

Tonsillitis symptoms usually come on suddenly. They may include.

  • Sore or scratchy throat.
  • Pain or difficulty swallowing.
  • Red, swollen tonsils and throat.
  • Whitish spots on your tonsils or a white, yellow or grey coating on your tonsils.
  • Fever above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).
  • Swollen lymph nodes (glands on the sides of your neck below your ears).
  • Stomach-ache or vomiting (more common in younger children).

In young children who are unable to describe how they feel, signs of tonsillitis may include.

  • Drooling due to difficult or painful swallowing.
  • Refusal to eat
  • Unusual fussiness

What causes tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis can be viral or bacterial

  • Viral tonsillitis. Viruses like colds and flus (influenza) cause up to 70% of tonsillitis cases.
  • Bacterial tonsillitis (strep throat). Bacteria, such as Group A Streptococcus, cause other cases of tonsillitis. Bacterial tonsillitis is commonly called strep throat. People without tonsils can still get strep throat.

COMPLICATIONS OF TONSILLITIS

Complications associated with tonsillitis include:

  • Middle Ear Infection
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Obstructive sleep apnea: Breathing is disrupted during sleep.
  • Peritonsillar abscess: Collection of pus behind the tonsils is referred to as peritonsillar abscess, also known as Quinsy. It is a rare, but very serious complication of tonsillitis. It can grow large in size and block the throat resulting in difficult breathing and swallowing. If not treated, the infection can spread to neck, chest or lungs.
  •  Tonsillar cellulitis: Spread of infection deeply to nearby tissues.
  • In tonsillitis with group A streptococcal bacteria i.e. strep throat infection, the serious complications include rheumatic fever and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. The viruses and bacteria that cause tonsillitis are highly contagious. They’re passed along by

  • Kissing or sharing utensils, food or drink.
  • Coming into close contact with someone who’s sick.
  • Touching a contaminated surface and then touching your nose or mouth.
  • Inhaling tiny particles that become airborne when a sick person sneezes or coughs.

While you can’t totally prevent tonsillitis, there are things you can do to reduce your risk. For example:

  • Wash your hands often, especially before touching your nose or mouth.
  • Avoid sharing food, drink, or utensils with someone who’s sick.
  • Replace your toothbrush regularly.

To relieve the symptoms of viral and bacterial tonsillitis, you can:

  • Drink warm liquids, like tea, apple cider or broth.
  • Gargle with warm salt water.
  • Try throat lozenges.

AN OUTLOOK ON TONSILLITIS – BY DR. SMRITI’S HOMOEOPATHIC HEALING

Tonsils are oval-shaped lumps of lymphoid tissue lying at the back of the throat, one on either side. These act as a first line of defence mechanism of our body against an illness. Tonsils trap the germs (bacteria or viruses) that may enter throat via nose or mouth and cause an infection. Tonsils produce lymphocytes which kill the virus/bacteria entering the throat. In the process of fighting such infections again and again, the tonsils also get vulnerable to get infected and at some point they actually get infected and inflamed.

Tonsillitis is an infection of your tonsils that can cause a sore throat, fever, difficulty swallowing and other symptoms. Tonsillitis is very common, and it’s easily treated with rest and homoeopathic medicines. If you have chronic tonsil infections, you can save your tonsils from unnecessary surgery (tonsillectomy) by taking right homoeopathic medicines under the guidance of homoeopathic physician.
